As usual, children of all ages are welcome at Segulah services. This year (2022), Segulah will have planned activities for children in three age groups:
- Ages 0-5: Babysitting, run by experienced preschool providers.
- Ages 6-12: New this year! An expanded, age-appropriate program with holiday-related activities in three categories (services, Torah study, and thematic/experiential) run by Judaic educators, interspersed with time for supervised free play.
Teachers for Ages 6-12:
Abby Kerbel is a Middle School Judaics Teacher & Director of Jewish Life at Gesher Jewish Day School in Fairfax, VA, as well as Rosh Yahadut (head of Jewish learning) at the Ramah Day Camp of Greater DC. An educator with 10+ years of professional experience in Jewish Education, she loves working with children of all ages to engage with Judaism. She has been leading Segulah High Holiday services for children since 2019, and looks forward to facilitating meaningful and enjoyable high holiday experiences for Segulah’s younger set.
Chana Kupetz is the Children and Families program manager at Hadar. Before that, she taught Hebrew and Jewish Studies in Minneapolis and DC. She lives in Takoma with her wife, Avi, and their three kids, and enjoys baking and drinking coffee.
Nechama Malkiel is the Curriculum Coordinator for Judaic Studies Grades 3-5 at Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School and currently teaches grades 4 and 5. She spent this past summer at Camp Ramah, gardening with the campers. She lives in Silver Spring with her husband, Toby, her human children, Yonah and Rafi, and her dog, Mochi.
